The pinnacle of the NFL season is just a few days away. For many sports enthusiasts, it may seem like the game will never come or perhaps that it has come and gone considering all of the endless hype, prognostication and repetitive banter. It’s strangely appropriate that is was just Groundhog Day as the Super Bowl coverage rolls out each day like a tired tape loop. In many ways, ESPN has done for sports what MTV did for music. Those who scarcely know which teams are involved will watch for the ads and the halftime show. Super Bowl Sunday is by far the nation’s most observed unofficial holiday. It’s a tradition.

8. Special equations: The greater the make-up application results in a less than 50% of knowing the score

7. Massive number of TV Ads (mixed emotions on this one)

6. Unofficially sanctioned “school night” party. (Shouldn’t Super Bowl Monday be a national recovery holiday?)

5. MVP – “going to Disneyland” obligatory declaration

4. Beer & Cocktails

3. Recreational gambling – buying squares
