Beverage of the Week (B.O.W)

BOW for the Week of: June 2 to June 8, 2010
We are very pleased to bring you our Beverage of the Week from Handley Cellars, a winery that we have always be quite fond of. Handley is the quintessential boutique winery producing roughly 18,000 cases of handmade wines each year.
After earning her degree from University of California at Davis, Milla Handley worked with California superstar winemakers Richard Arrowood at Chateau St. Jean and Jed Steele at Edmeades Winery. Handley founded Handley in 1982 as she made her first Chardonnay in the basement of the family home.
In the years and decades that followed Handley Cellars has become a gold standard in California’s Anderson Valley - a rural and dynamic wine region in Mendocino County. The fruit is sourced from the 30 acres of certified organic vines at the Holmes Ranch in the Anderson Valley providing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Gewürztraminer. Handley also owns a 19-acre sustainably farmed vineyard in the Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma County.
The Handley wines are always fresh, vibrant, and oozing with a distinct personality. The wines also possess true varietal character and show great balance and proportion. The Handley wines prize balance and complexity over heft and power while offering plenty of rich, hedonistic fruit.
The Handley Cellars Dry Creek Sauvignon Blanc is a wonderfully unique wine. While far too many California Sauvignon Blancs are molded to better fit the winemaker’s vision, this wine is a true expression of the fruit. It is the perfect wine for summer gatherings.

Tasting Notes:
Bright straw color. The nose is fresh, complex, and very unexpected. Scents of pineapple, limeade, peach, and kiwi dominate accented by hints of lime zest and mineral. The palate is equally rich while vibrant with subtle wood influences that compliment the multi-layered fruit core. Ideally balanced with a perfect dose of natural acidity. A real charmer, perfect for summer sipping. $15.00
