BOW for the Week of: August 3 to August 9, 2011

Regular BevX readers are well aware of our unabashed affection for Pietra Santa Winery in California's Cienega Valley. This winery has all of the bases covered. It's a strikingly beautiful property that grows fruit with incredible balance and character. The winery's owners are authentic and passionate people while their winemaker (Alessio Carli) is undeniably charismatic and uniquely talented.

BevX just received a selection of new releases of Pietra Santa’s “summer wines.” In this selection was this tasty Pinot Grigio. This year Pietra Santa is offering two Pinot Grigios from the Cienega Valley. Both wines are perfectly balanced with incredible depth and intrigue. This beautiful wine is proof positive of how wonderful Pinot Grigio can be when given this level of care.

Pietra Santa knows how to build a tasty and ideally balanced wine. This wine is very versatile pairing well with a variety of dishes from summer salads to grilled fish or fowl and perfectly suited for Thai dishes. Another selling point is the sleek and smart screw-cap closure that ensures you that the wine reaches your table in the best possible condition. Simply chill, twist and enjoy!

Tasting Notes:

Brilliant pale straw color. The nose is fresh and fruit driven offering scents of ripe peach, red grapefruit, kiwi, and pineapple with hints of wet river stones. The palate is in full agreement with the nose delivering a fruit driven core with ideally proportioned notes of citrus and mineral. Super fresh and refreshing without a touch of oak to distract from the careful fruit balance. A great summer aperitif but it is a lovely food wine working well with Thai dishes, chilled shellfish, and herb roasted pork. $15.00
