Dacalier “Premiere Rose” Lake County 2008 (USA)

Pink salmon color. The nose is fresh and wonderfully complex with notes of strawberry, rhubarb, tea berries, dried apricot, and star fruit with accents of spring flowers. The palate is a unique animal indeed. Ripe and tart berries mingle with a distinct flavor of Lapsang Souchong tea and hints of mineral. Ideally balanced and perfect with smoked salmon or charcuterie. Bravo!

Dancing Bull Sauvignon Blanc California 2008 (USA)

Pale straw color. The nose presents classic Sauvignon Blanc notes of fresh cut grass, grapefruit, gooseberry, and citrus. The palate echoes the nose offering fresh, crisp, flavors that stimulate the appetite. A refreshing and pleasing wine that is an ideal summer aperitif. A great value.

Dark Horse Cabernet Sauvignon “Scharf Family Vineyard” Dry Creek Valley 2006 (USA)

Deep, dark ruby red color. The nose is intense with fruit, mineral, and oak vying for your attention. Notes of blackberry, black cherry, and currants mingle with flanking notes of earth and spice with a generous dose of oak. Firm tannins grip the dry finish with a wave of dried herbs as well. A big wine with a tight, clenched fist of tannins and oak.

Dark Horse Gunfighter “Third Notch” Red Dry Creek Valley 2008 (USA)

Deep ruby red color. The wine is generous with freshly crushed berries with accents of vanilla, blueberry, and allspice. The palate equals the nose with great vibrancy and pleasing fruit and spice flavors. A wonderfully unpretentious wine with plenty of charm.

Dark Horse Zinfandel “Treborce Vineyard” Dry Creek Valley 2007 (USA)

Deep, dark ruby red to purple color. The nose is dense with ripe blackberry and cherry with a generous dose of brown spices lead by star anise and cinnamon with hints of black pepper. The palate is in full agreement with the nose offering layers of ripe and jammy fruit with assertive spice notes and a good dose of refreshing acid. Amazingly spry and balanced for a wine with this degree of power. Perfectly styled for the committed Zin lover.

David Girard Rosé Wine El Dorado 2007 (USA)

Light pink salmon color. The nose is fresh and youthful despite the wine being from the 2007 vintage. Scents of strawberry, peach, star fruit, and wild berries. The palate is equally fresh and vibrant with a healthy dose of crisp acidity that lifts the fine fruit marriage with crisp citrus edges. It is a lovely Rosé with a nice dose of tart fruit as well and subtle hints of age. The finish is a bit hot.

David Girard Rosé Wine El Dorado 2008 (USA)

Bright strawberry red. The nose is fresh and vibrant with scents of ripe strawberry, raspberry, and red grapefruit with hints of tarragon, pomelo, and orange zest. The palate echoes the nose with ripe lush fruit ideally balanced with citrus and semi-tart berries. Fresh and contemplative while its greatest appeal is purely hedonistic. Very much like our favorite Rosé wines form the South of France.

Decoy Napa Valley 2006 (USA)

Deep burgundy color. The nose is filled with scents of ripe black cherries, raspberry, and cranberry with accents of wild spring flowers, brown spices, and sweet oak notes. The palate echoes the nose being soft and pleasing. It seems to be a perfected package of Napa fruit that is lovely while perhaps lacking an edge or distinguishing features that I had hoped would emerge over time in the glass.

Deep Sea Chardonnay Central Coast 2008 (USA)

Bright golden straw color. The nose is rich with tropical fruits with apples and pears as well. The palate offers an explosion of orchard and tropical fruits with accents of butterscotch, honey, and green apple notes to add contrast. A well constructed wine that unfortunately shows its great alcohol strength on the finish becoming quite hot. However, we know that many readers have a love affair with bigger and bigger Chardonnay and this fits the bill offering better balance and character than most.

Deep Sea Red Central Coast 2008 (USA)

Deep, dense purple color. The nose is rich and dense with ripe raspberry and blackberry scents leaping from the glass with hints of mineral, allspice, cinnamon, and oak. The palate echoes the nose delivering a lush, silky core of ripe fruit with accents of brown spice. The wine shows incredible length offering layers of berries and super soft tannins.
