Kaiken Malbec “Reserve” Mendoza 2007 (Argentina)

Deep, dark ruby red color. The nose is wonderfully complex led by ripe red fruits with accents of brown spices, earth, and a deft use of oak. The palate is equally dense and lush with a flanking austerity that compliments the ripe berry fruits. Wonderfully balanced with complex layers of fruit, spice, and earth. A very charming wine that punches above its weight being sold for fewer than 15 bucks. Super.

Kamiak Rock Lake Red Columbia Valley 2007 (USA)

Bright ruby red color. The nose presents a pleasing blend of fruit, spice, and earth. Ripe cherry and raspberry are accented by a dense, clay like earthiness with hints of black pepper, clove, and cocoa nibs. The palate echoes the nose delivering a dense fruit core with loads of cocoa, pepper, and a healthy dose of oak. Ideally balanced with great length and food compatibility. We are thinking rich stews or chili.

Keller Estate Chardonnay “Oro De Plata” Sonoma Coast 2006 (USA)

Bright, light gold color. The nose is filled with a complex fruit mélange of ripe apple and peach with tropical aromas and accents of ginger. The palate echoes the nose offering complex fruit flavors flanked by an omnipresent minerality and notes of citrus and fruit skins. Wonderfully balanced and sure to please the Burgundy lover on your block or in your home. It’s increasingly rare to find a Chardonnay made with this ideal sense or proportion and style. Bravo!

Keller Estate Pinot Noir “La Cruz Vineyard” Sonoma Coast 2005 (USA)

Bright ruby red color. The nose is miles from the typical California Pinot as it offers as much earth and a mineral aroma as it does dense fruit. After airing, the fruit gains prominence. The palate is perfectly balanced with complex flavors of ripe and tart berries flanked by notes of earth, mineral, oak, and black pepper. Wonderfully harmonious, brilliantly made, and desperate for classic grilled veal chop.

Kelley & Young “Kathleen Rosé - Robert Young Vineyard” Alexander Valley 2008 (USA)

Soft orangey color. The nose is subtle with a dense core of berry fruit. The palate shows a pretty fruit core that could do with a dose of citrus flavors to add balance and interest. The fruit package is lovely while we would have wanted a bit more acid and at more than $20 a bottle it might not make our shopping list.

Keyways Winery & Vineyards Chenin Blanc Temecula 2008 (USA)

Very pale straw color being nearly void of color. The aromatics are anything but void offering scents of spring flowers, bright ruby red grapefruit, star fruit, honeydew melon, and green apple. The palate fully concurs delivering fresh, vibrant flavors with crisp balancing acid. A great aperitif or pair it with roasted fowl or salads.

Keyways Winery & Vineyards Syrah California 2007 (USA)

Brilliant, deep ruby red color. The nose is fresh and vibrant with scents of blackberry, cherry, and raspberry. Complimenting aromas of black pepper, plum, leather, and sweet tar round out the package. The palate confirms the nose adding another dimension to the aromatics. Lush while vibrant with balancing acidity with layers of ripe, semi-dried berries, dark chocolate, and dried herbs.

Kim Crawford Chardonnay “Unoaked” Marlborough 2006 (New Zealand)

Pale straw color. The nose is filled with pure fruit flavors ranging from white peach to apples, and pear. The palate reveals more of the same joined by lychee, star fruit, and pink grapefruit, complimented by a mild lees note. Rich while crisp and never cloying with refreshing, balancing acidity.

KitFox Vineyards Syrah “Chlo’s Vineyard” Salado Creek 2005 (USA)

Bright ruby red color. The nose is wonderful fragrant filled with notes of black cherry, blackberry, pepper, anise, and earth. The palate confirms the nose while adding layers of leather and semi-tart cherry to the mix. Incredibly rich while never being hot or over bearing. Ideally balanced suitable for the table to accompany a deep, complex dish or it is lovely as a solo performer.

KitFox Vineyards Viognier “Carson’s Vineyard” Salado Creek 2005 (USA)

Bright gold color. The nose is wildly fragrant with scents of apricot, peach, and mandarin oranges. The palate echoes the nose on a lush, buttery, and silky texture that borders on being fat. An altogether pleasing wine that is styled to the taste of the contemporary wine drinker.
