Venge Cabernet Sauvignon “Family Reserve” Oakville 2006 (USA)

Deep, bright cherry red color. The nose is filled with ripe blackberry, black cherry, and an accent of plum and brown spices. The palate continues in a classic Bordeaux manner offering waves of fresh and dried berry fruit with complimenting notes of earth, oak, a touch of cedar, and cigar box. Perfectly balanced with plenty of goods for extended aging but it drinks very nicely today with a little breathing time. (We opened the bottle an hour before tasting). We love everything about this seriously good Cabernet except the luxury price tag.

Venge “Champ des Fleurs White” Napa Valley 2008 (USA)

Bright pale golden color. The nose is filled with scents of fresh, sweet, spring flowers with notes of ripe green apple, peach, and tropical fruits. The palate is sweeter than expected with assertive ripe tropical fruit notes. The fruit melange is pretty and fresh but the sweetness level is stuck between a sweet and off-dry style.

Venge “Scouts Honor” Napa Valley 2007 (USA)

Deep, bright violet to purple color. The nose is fresh and wild with scents of fresh crushed berries and red cherry filling the nose accented by notes of star anise, clove, and black pepper. The palate is lush and chewy with ripe berries and a generous spice component that includes, cardamom, allspice, and lots of pepper. A playful and generous wine that aims to please being best served with grilled meat, even a terrific burger or spicy pizza would work. A bit dear in the price of acquisition keeping us from gushing for too long.

Ventana Dry Rosado Arroyo Seco 2008 (USA)

Bright, deep pink with the appearance of a light red. The nose is fresh and generous with waves of ripe cherry and strawberry leaping from the glass with accents of cranberry and citrus pulp. The palate is equally ripe and tart with a juicy core of berries with complimenting lemon zest and grapefruit notes. A friendly quaffing Rosé in the best possible sense.

Veraison Cabernet Sauvignon “Stagecoach Vineyard” Napa Valley 2004 (USA)

Deep, dark red to purple color. The nose is madly expressive offering scents of ultra ripe cherry, plums, blackberries with cassis and sweet, fresh herbs. The palate is lush and ripe with enough pleasingly tart fruit notes to add contrast and interest. A charming, hedonistic and seductive wine that is, in our opinion, nearing its peak.

Veraison Merlot Krupp Vineyard Atlas Peak 2004 (USA)

Deep, dense purple color. The nose is filled with ultra ripe and sweet dried fruits with accents of brown spices, vanilla, and berry liqueur. The palate echoes the same while offering dense and chewy wood notes and firm tannins. Exclusively for lovers of powerful and highly extracted wines.

Vesevo “Beneventano” IGT, Campania 2010 (Italy)

Brilliant pale golden color. The aromatics are quite floral with scents of honeysuckle, green melon, star fruit, and pomelo rising from the glass. The palate echoes the nose delivering a soft and fresh fruit driven core with notes of citrus zest and white flowers. Ideally balanced with delicate trailing fruit and floral flavors. A great happy hour wine.

Victor Hugo Malbec Paso Robles 2006 (USA)

Deep and dense cherry red color. The nose is simply beautiful. Layers of berries, mulling spices, and soft accents of earth fill the nose. The palate continues the journey as it continues to reveal its many layers of berries ranging from blackberry to blueberry with notes of allspice, cinnamon, cardamom, and nutmeg. Perfectly balanced and wonderfully fresh with a judicious dose of acid that makes this the ideal partner for grilled and roasted meats as well as a cheesy casserole. Bravo!

Victor Hugo Petite Sirah Paso Robles 2006 (USA)

Deep, bright ruby red color. The aromatics are wonderfully hedonistic and complex. Scents of fresh crushed ripe berries with accents of brown spice, mineral, black pepper, and a clever dose of oak. The palate is in full agreement with the nose offering layers of fruit, spice, and earth. Ideally balanced with a fresh dose of acidity that adds a lift and tremendous food compatibility. Serve with some braised short ribs and enjoy a slice of heaven.

Victor Hugo Petite Sirah Paso Robles 2008 (USA)

Deep, bright ruby red with touches of purple. The nose reveals a big, rich, berry concentrated wine with lush, ripe fruit in the lead with hints of mineral. Lush flavors of freshly crushed red and black berries and cherries with accents of tart cherry, black pepper, allspice, clove, and oak. The back palate and finish become mildly sour and a bit short with moderate tannins.
